This is the finalist entry of a public art’s design build proposal, which simply makes floating reflective surface in the yard. By this simple gesture we tried to evoke complex notion of nature and artifact, subjectivity and objectivity. (water-concrete / relational perception of what is reflected) Together with the reasonable budget sheet, we proposed the lath and earth form work in order to rationalize the construction of curved concrete volume, whose method also suggests the concrete as the ‘solidified water,’ the inverted time process of the glacial retreat in New England area’s local landscape, kettle ponds.
ハーバード大学構内のラドクリフ・ヤードに設置されるパブリックアートの実施コンペ案。自然豊かとも人工的とも言えるキャンパスの庭に、様々な高さのコンクリートのボリュームによって、地表からほんの少し浮かんだ、人々の動きや姿勢に応じて周囲を様々に映し出す水面に見立てたランドスケープを提案した。大学の敷地であるニューイングランド地方特有の風景「ケトル・ポンド」が、数万年前に氷塊が徐々に溶け出して生まれたプロセス(固体→液体)に着想を得て、それを逆転し、山の凹みにできた湖のように、土で形成した型枠にコンクリートを流し込み、固形化させる。 型枠に利用した土は、オブジェ周辺の整地に利用する。人工 /自然、 主観 /客観、天 / 地、線形 / 非線形、など、様々な二項対立を相対化して、ものごとの見かた、捉えかたに訴えかけるパブリックアートを提案した。 (実施設計競技・最終５選)
